It's rice.

Yeah.

In Japan, people eat rice every day and now is the time of year that they harvest the rice,

so I thought I'd show you how they do it.

After growing for several months, the rice looks like this and it's ready to harvest in October.

But they don't pick it like they used to.

They have these really cool machines that do all the work for them.

Now the farmer 's changing the bags.

This machine will separate the rice from the rest of the plant.

Here he goes.

Looks pretty easy, huh?

It must have been really hard to do this a long time ago,

before they had such cool machines.

It's so fast.

This rice field is actually right across the street from my school.

Yeah.

I love rice, but I'm allergic to the pollen, so I have a sore throat today.

Almost done.

All finished.

Now to take the rice home.
