What Are Americans Afraid Of?
Not having enough money for the future.
This fear is shared by over 50 % of Americans, who are uncertain about the stability of their financial future.
Around 12. 7 percent of people live under the poverty line which means they make less than
$ 24, 000 for a family of four.
Pollution of drinking water.
This is likely due to what happened in Flint, Michigan,
where over 100, 000 people were exposed to high levels of lead in their drinking water.
In Flint, since early 2017 they do say that the water levels have gone to a more acceptable place,
but they 're still instructing residents to drink bottled water until they fix all of the pipes.
This may not happen until 2020 and I can see why Americans would be scared of this happening to them.
Number three is the fear of pollution in our oceans, rivers and lakes,
which, hey, I'm pretty happy people are scared about that given that, you know,
we might have to do something about it.
Number two, given that the survey was American - centric, is the state of healthcare in America,
and what Trump 's new American healthcare act will even mean for people.
Which makes sense, given that people want to know the certainty of their healthcare plan.
And not knowing is pretty scary.
And the number one fear is the corruption of government officials.
75 % of Americans surveyed do not trust politicians.
This is also a bipartisan issue because it was the number one fear of Americans for a third year in a row.
It's not just because of Trump.
Now it's important to remember that these are just the results from one survey, and America has a lot of
different people in it. But I thought it was interesting to note that these kind of fears,
we always think about spiders, and the dark, but these were a lot more realistic.
