Seoul beats London to become world's best city for international students in 2026

Seoul has been ranked the world's best city for international students in 2026, earning a perfect score of 100 in the QS Best Student Cities list. The South Korean capital rose two places to overtake Tokyo, which came in second by just 0.01 point. London, the previous year's leader, dropped to third with 97.1 points.

QS, an education consultancy, bases its rankings on factors such as university quality, student diversity, desirability, job prospects, affordability, and student feedback. This year's top 10 includes six European cities, two from Asia (Seoul and Tokyo), and two from Oceania (Melbourne and Sydney).

Munich, Melbourne, and Sydney maintained their fourth to sixth positions. Berlin rose to seventh, while Paris and Zurich climbed to eighth and ninth. Vienna entered the top 10 after jumping four spots, replacing Montreal.

To be considered, a city must have at least 250,000 residents and two or more universities featured in the QS World University Rankings.

2 Southwest Airlines flight attendants injured after jet moved to avoid another aircraft

Two Southwest Airlines flight attendants were injured after their plane, Flight 1496 departing Burbank, California, sharply descended nearly 500 feet to avoid another aircraft. The pilots received onboard collision alerts shortly after takeoff, prompting both a climb and descent. Though the plane landed safely in Las Vegas, the incident caused panic among passengers. The FAA is investigating.

This event follows a similar near-miss last week involving a SkyWest jet and a U.S. Air Force B-52 bomber during a landing approach in North Dakota. Both incidents are under investigation by the FAA and military authorities.

60% of Liver Cancer Are Preventable, Report Reveals

A Lancet Commission report reveals that up to 60% of liver cancer cases are preventable, especially those linked to obesity and a condition called MASLD (formerly non-alcoholic fatty liver disease). Cases caused by the severe form, MASH, are expected to rise by 35% by 2050. The report urges increased awareness, particularly in the U.S., Europe, and Asia, where obesity, diabetes, and poor diets are fueling liver cancer risks. Prevention is considered the most effective strategy, as most cases are incurable.

Strategies include boosting hepatitis B vaccination, alcohol regulation, early screening, and promoting healthy lifestyles. Promising treatments like GLP-1 drugs may help reduce liver damage. If countries reduce liver cancer rates by 25% annually, up to 17 million cases and 15 million deaths could be avoided by 2050.

Global cases are projected to rise from 870,000 in 2022 to 1.52 million in 2050, with the death toll increasing to 1.37 million. Liver cancer is the third leading cause of cancer death worldwide, with China accounting for over 40% of cases. In the U.S., 42,000 new cases and 30,000 deaths are expected this year, with obesity now a major driver.

The Commission calls for policy changes, routine liver screening for at-risk individuals, and public health initiatives like sugar taxes and food labeling to combat this growing crisis.
