AI age sees rising demand for digital talent

The rapid rise of AI, Big Data, and automation is reshaping the global job market, making digital expertise a key advantage. Roles in digital management and innovation are becoming increasingly valuable, offering attractive salariesranging from $55,000 in Vietnam to over $200,000 in the U.S. According to the World Economic Forum, 60% of employers see digital technologies as the top driver of organizational growth.

Vietnam is actively promoting digital transformation through its National Digital Transformation Program, aiming to develop a digital government, economy, and globally competitive tech firms. The country's digital economy is expected to reach $49 billion by 2025, fueling demand for professionals skilled in both technology and business strategy.

However, McKinsey reports that fewer than half the current workforce meets the needed digital skill level, highlighting a global skills gap. To address this, British University Vietnam (BUV) offers a Management and Digital Innovation program, awarded by the University of London and academically directed by the London School of Economics (LSE).

The program blends core business knowledge with advanced digital skills, preparing students for high-demand roles like chief digital officer, business analyst, and digital project manager. With strong ties to industry needs and access to 69 partner universities worldwide, including Russell Group institutions, BUV students graduate with practical skills and global career opportunities.

Filipino tourists ripped off by Hanoi taxi driver

A group of Filipino tourists in Hanoi was charged VND1.4 million (US$53) for a taxi ride of less than 1 kmabout 50 times the normal fare. On June 30, unable to book a ride-hailing service due to heavy rain, they took a taxi near Hoan Kiem Lake. The driver deliberately took a longer route before overcharging them.

After the tourists filed a complaint, local police identified the driver, who admitted to the scam and refunded VND1.37 million. While the tourists were surprised, one of them said their overall experience in Hanoi remained positive. Police are considering fines for the driver.

This incident follows a similar case last month, when a Taiwanese tourist was also overcharged for a taxi ride in Hanoi.
