In August 2022 on Denmark's Læsø Island, a rare encounter was captured of a European adder attempting to prey on a young hare roughly 10 times its size. The event, recorded by Klaus Birch and detailed in the journal Herpetozoa, shows the female snake — likely in poor nutritional condition after giving birth — repeatedly inspecting, biting, and pulling at the hare.

Initially startled by Birch's presence, the adder fled but returned several times to continue its efforts, focusing on the hare's limbs and head. Although the hare was still breathing, it showed minimal movement and died about 30 minutes later after Birch intervened.

The study suggests the snake likely would have abandoned the hare due to its excessive size, though it's uncertain. Such behavior — attacking or attempting to consume oversized prey — is unusual but has been documented before. In past cases, snakes have misjudged their capacity, sometimes resulting in death, as in a report of an adder that died after consuming a prey item 92.9% of its own mass.

Researchers concluded that incidents involving snakes killing and then abandoning prey too large to ingest may be more common than reported.

Vietnam welcomed 10.7 million foreign visitors in the first half of 2025, a 20.7% year-on-year increase, though still trailing Thailand's 16.6 million arrivals. Mainland China led with 2.72 million visitors, followed by South Korea (2.2 million), Taiwan (629,000), the U.S. (449,000), and Japan (393,000). The remaining top 10 included Cambodia, India, Australia, Malaysia, and Russia — the latter saw the sharpest growth at 239% thanks to resumed direct flights amid the ongoing Ukraine conflict.

Tourism experts attribute Vietnam's strong growth to improved visa policies, expanded promotional efforts, and cultural events marking national holidays. Key policy changes included a visa waiver from March 1 for package tourists from Poland, Czechia, and Switzerland for stays up to 45 days. Additionally, visa exemptions were extended to 2028 for citizens of 12 countries, including Japan, South Korea, Russia, and several European nations, after the original waiver expired on March 15. These efforts aim to boost Vietnam's competitiveness in the regional tourism market.

During Singapore's durian peak season, several hotels and venues are offering all-you-can-eat durian buffets featuring premium varieties like Musang King, Mao Shan Wang, and D24.

Paradox Singapore Merchant Court Hotel will host the Royal Durian Bazaar every Thursday from July 10 to Aug. 7, offering unlimited durian from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at S$138++ for adults and S$50++ for kids. The hotel's Ellenborough Market Café also runs a buffet with creative durian dishes and desserts until Aug. 31.

Resorts World Sentosa offers a luxury durian buffet at The Bay Restaurant on July 11–13 and 18–20, priced at S$268 per person. The buffet includes Mao Shan Wang, Red Prawn, and D24 durians, plus Chinese food and seasonal fruits.

Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel will host the SG60 Durian Fiesta from July 14 to Sept. 14 at Food Capital, featuring free-flow Musang King and other dishes in a riverside setup.

FairPrice Xtra will hold 60-minute buffets at Jem (July 25–27) and VivoCity (Aug. 1–3). Guests can choose between a S$65 regular buffet or an S$85 gold buffet, with coconut water and mangosteen included. A S$10 early-bird discount is available for bookings before July 10.

These events offer durian lovers a rare opportunity to indulge in premium varieties and innovative durian cuisine.

On July 2 and 3, the northern lights may be visible across parts of the U.S. due to a G-1 class geomagnetic storm, according to NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center. With a geomagnetic disturbance level of 4 out of 9, the aurora borealis could be seen in northern states including Washington, Montana, North Dakota, Vermont, and Maine. A NOAA map shows where visibility is likely, with green areas indicating general visibility and red spots showing more intense aurora activity.

The best viewing times are after sunset and before sunrise, provided skies are clear and far from light pollution. The auroras occur when space particles collide with atmospheric atoms, producing glowing lights in colors like green, red, blue, pink, and purple. Oxygen glows green (60–120 miles altitude) or red (above 120 miles), while nitrogen produces blue and pink hues depending on altitude and energy.

Viewers are advised to look in all directions, not just north, and be mindful that moonlight, pollution, clouds, or city lights can diminish visibility. Under optimal conditions, the aurora may be seen from as far as 621 miles away.

In 2025, the U.S. is projected to welcome around 7,500 foreign millionaires with a combined wealth of $43.7 billion, according to Henley & Partners' Private Wealth Migration Report 2025. Globally, about 142,000 millionaires are expected to migrate in 2025, with other top destinations including Italy, Switzerland, and Saudi Arabia. The U.S. is also the largest source of investment migration applicants in 2025, accounting for over 30% of all applications processed by Henley & Partners - triple the number from early 2024 - reflecting rising American interest in global mobility.

The report underscores the benefits of millionaire migration, such as boosting foreign exchange revenue, fostering new business creation, stimulating local markets and the middle class, and generating jobs and wealth through a multiplier effect.
